Fashion Friday with Etsy, The Fabulous 50's

I am infatuated with the 1950's. How did the woman manage to look so perfect all the time? This weeks Fashion Friday showcases the Fabulous 50's. Here's our inspiration photo:

Now I recreate this look shopping only on Etsy

The Dress:
I choose the 1950's Vintage Turquoise Sun Dress because it shares the same colors, neck line, full skirt, small waist line, and an intricate pattern like that of the inspiration photo. This dress can be found at Timeless Vixen Vintage for $320.00. I know, I know, that's on the spendy side but LOOK AT THIS DRESS! It's amazing! In fact I highly recommend a trip to the Timeless Vixen Vintage shop on Etsy...this shop has the most incredible dresses I have ever seen.

Shoes:
The 50s Black Leather Folded Rose Stilettos can be found at Crafty Crow Vintage for only $18.00

The Earrings:
These earrings can be found at my shop, Happy Day Vintage for $14.40 (on sale until Sunday July 14th).

Wow, are we done already? I want to keep shopping. However, I love the 50's look because it was simple, clean and elegant - never overdone. So I'll stop shopping now (even though I don't want to).

Let's recap our Fabulous 50's Fashion Friday:
All the items, on the left hand side of this photo, can be found on Etsy along with many more fantastic vintage finds. The total price for our 1950's look today is:
$352.40.

Thank you for reading our blog and have a
Happy Day!

Amazing Uses for Vintage Suitcases

Vintage suitcases have always been a popular item on Happy Day Vintage and Etsy.  And why wouldn't they be?  Their quality does not compare to that of today's suitcases, they are colorful and unique, and they have many more uses than just carrying clothes for travel.  Let's explore some amazing uses for vintage suitcases....
Home decor...

Transform your suitcases into stools, chairs, bedside tables.  Or hang your suitcase on a wall and use as a shelf.  And I love the idea of making your suitcase into a vanity for your bathroom! Do it yourself or just buy one from Vanitycase, an Etsy shop that makes them!  (Lower right hand corner picture taken from this shop.)

Storage...

Transform your suitcase into a file cabinet.  Stack a few of them at the foot of your bed and store blankets or out of season clothes.  Store art or scrapbook supplies.  Or even your pet! The options are endless!
And now that you have some great uses for vintage suitcases let's take a look at a few on Etsy:
Upper right: Vintage red suitcase-hardtop by Moxiethrift, $20.00.

Which Era Fits your Fabulous Figure?

Shopping for vintage clothing but not sure which era to choose from? Here are a few guidelines that will help make your decision easier....

1920's: No curves - "stick figure".
1930's: flat stomach and dainty.
1940's: clothes fit most body types
1950's: hour glass figure, small waist and bust well proportioned to the hips.
1960's: tall and leggy
1970's: No curves, great legs. Apple or Pear shape figures fit well in this era.

Hope this helps make your vintage shopping a little bit more enjoyable. Now get shopping!
Leave a comment and let me know which era you are.

Father's Day Gift Guide - For the Modern Dad

Modern Dads are not what they used to be. The modern Dad works, cooks, cleans, takes care of the kids, is stylish, knows the latest trends, and looks good doing it all. This year, don't get him the standard Father's Day gift. Give him something different, something no other Dad will have. Give him something environmentally friendly. Give him something he'll love and cherish. Give him something that will bring back fond memories of his younger years. Happy Day Vintage has gifts for Dad that will accomplish all those things in one gift! The best part...we can do it at a low cost (you don't need to tell Dad about that part).

Let's get Started!

For the Dad who Travels

The Dad who travels needs a trendy suitcase to give him a masculine and professional look. These six suitcases are up for the challenge.
When not being used for travel the Fly Daddy can place these on a shelf in his office creating artistic additional storage.
Top Row Left: Black Chevron Striped Bowling Bag $17.00
Top Row Middle: Caribbean Sea Samsonite Suitcase $45.00
Top Row Right: Contour II Samsonite Navy Blue Medium Hardshell Suitcase $41.00
Large Picture Lower Left: Copper American Tourister Suitcase $36.00
Lower Right -Top Picture: Blue as Sky Set of Small Suitcases $52.00
Lower Right: Mod Plaid Tapestry Suitcase $39.00

Gadgets for Dad's Office:

It seems the majority of men love electronics and/or gadgets. If this statement holds true for your Fly Daddy then the four vintage items shown above will make perfect Father's Day gifts.
Top Left: Dad's Retro Printing Calculator $34.00
Top Right: Retro Taylor Weather Station $26.00
Lower Left: Vintage Westinghouse Taupe Fan $60.00
Lower Right: Red Sears Electric Typewriter $89.00

For the Dad who's off to Work:
The Green Briefcase $27.00 is a must have for the Dad who brings home his work after a long day at the office. Large enough to fit a lap top as well as put all his paper work and files in the compartments provided.

There you have it, a few great gift ideas for Father's Day. Check out Happy Day Vintage for more great gifts. Also, Happy Day Vintage has men's vintage suit jackets and ties. Just send us a convo if they are not listed.
Thank you and have a Happy Day
